Our Purpose

Children are important to God, and are a vital part of our ministry at Valley Brook Community Church!

Children's Ministries serves all children ages infant through Grade Five.

We pray that children come to know Jesus as their Savior, and learn to serve Him as their Lord.  We offer an assortment of programs and special events designed to help children in their Christian growth.  To help children in their outreach to the community, locally and abroad, we also participate in various service projects.  Children will experience God's love through instruction in His Word, music, drama, and fun activities.

Specifically...

  • We teach Biblical principles in partnership with parents, so that in God's timing, a child will be led into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, or grow in their existing relationship, and become His influential disciple to the world...KNOW, GROW, SHOW & GO!
  • We provide a safe, secure environment for children to worship God in an age-appropriate manner.
  • We provide Bible lessons that creatively express the message of the Gospel through age-specific, hands-on activities that are fun, effective, and relevant to children.
  • We provide opportunities where children can use their gifts and talents to benefit others and be messengers of Christ's love.

Safety Comes First
Your child(ren)'s safety is our first priority — all of our staff and volunteers must pass a criminal background check prior to working in the Children's Ministries programs.

Questions
If you have questions about any aspect of our Children's Ministries program, please contact Diane Heermance, Children's Ministry Director in the church office at (860) 844-0001.

Sunday School Program

During the regular school year (September-June), we offer classes geared for children of all ages on Sunday mornings.  Our goal is for children to experience God's love through instruction in His Word (The Bible), music, drama, and fun activities.

Note: If you have a child with any special needs, please contact Diane Heermance, Children's Ministries Director, in the church office so she can work with you to determine the best way to serve your child.

CLASS STRUCTURE
We provide Sunday Morning classes for all children.  Classes are organized by age as noted below.  All of the classes incorporate age-appropriate interactive learning activities.

Nursery (Infants through 23 months)
These precious little ones are cared for during the entire worship service (9:30-10:45am) in the Nursery.
Guided by their teachers, they sing songs and hear stories – all designed to show them how much God loves them.

Ages 2 & 3
This class meets during the entire worship service (9:30-10:45am).
Children are involved in age-appropriate interactive learning activities. They play games, make new friends, and praise God through music!

Ages 4 - Grade 5
Children ages 4-Grade 5 join their parents in the auditorium for the first part of the worship service (music/singing).  They are dismissed before the sermon to join their teacher.

Our younger children (ages 4-Grade 3) will enjoy fun hands-on activities and interactive games that teach them about the Lord through His Word (the Bible).  Older children (Grade 4 & 5) will explore and learn about God's Word and how to apply God's teaching to their daily lives.

We provide individual classes for kids as follows:

  • Age 4
  • Kindergarten
  • Grade 1
  • Grade 2
  • Grade 3
  • Grade 4
  • Grade 5

Note: Grades 6-12 fall under our Student Ministries program.

Other Projects & News

Beginning January 24, Children's Ministries will be participating in Samaritan's Purse "Help for Haiti" program.

All children's weekly offerings will be given to Samaritan's Purse to help the people of Haiti.  It will be an opportunity for children to learn how we as "the church" can show the love of Jesus to people in need in a real, tangible way.

Children can give their offerings during class or they can place their offerings in the special collection box that will be located at the Help for Haiti table in the hallway.  Teachers will encourage the children to stop by the display to learn more about Haiti and the current needs through maps, age-appropriate photos and more.

Parents are encouraged to visit the Samaritan's Purse website to learn more.  For questions about this special project, contact Diane Heermance.

CARE PACKAGES - Thank you!

Help Fill A College Care Package with Love!

This project provides an opportunity for Valley Brook children to reach out to our college students who are away from home and show them how much we love them.

Project Update:
Thank you to everyone that purchased items for the 32 care packages we sent off to our college students!  They were blessed by your generosity!

Here are just a few of the comments we received from the students upon receiving the surprise package:

"Thank you so much for sending the care package to me. I opened it up in my room and and my roommates couldn't believe that my church family had sent such a great gift."

"Your package made me feel really loved. I wasn't expecting it, thank you."

"Thank you for the subway gift cards, it's nice to get off campus to eat and I never have any money!"

"I don't live away from home so I was surprised to get a package, it was filled with some really good stuff."
